We’ve been fortunate to have few confirmed COVID-19 cases here in Florida, relative to other states across the country. Home renovations are still taking place, but with specific precautions to limit the risk to both homeowners and contractors. If you are thinking about renovating your home, here’s what you should know about Florida home renovations amid Coronavirus.
Meetings and Customer Interactions
Our team is observing social distancing guidelines in all customer interactions from initial meetings to project evaluation and construction work. First and foremost, we are not shaking hands with anyone at this time. This is an unusual practice for us since so much of our business revolves around personal relationships and handshakes are such a symbolic gesture. Secondly, we wear a mask for all in-person meetings and keep a safe distance. In fact, we are meeting outdoors on patios and decks more often than indoors these days. We also communicate a lot more via phone and video conferencing than in the past and sign contracts digitally. Even though customer interactions and communication methods are changing in Florida home renovations amid Coronavirus, we continue to stay connected to our customers throughout the process.
Pre-renovation Information
A key step in preparing for a project are measurements and interior viewings. This process has adapted to Coronavirus as well. Many of our customers are taking basic measurements and photos to send to us. Using public records, we are able to retrieve floor plans and accurate measurements as well. Design consultations often involve discussions, which can take place via phone, video call, or outdoor in-person meetings. Sketches and other information can be shared digitally. Although this is all a shift from normal practices, we are able to effectively discuss and plan projects with our customers.
Interior Renovation Work
Exterior renovation work is taking place as usual, with social distancing among our workers. As for interior projects, we block off the space being renovated with heavy plastic. This was a practice before Coronavirus for dust control. For large scale projects, it’s often best that homeowners vacate the premises during the renovation period. Given construction noise and the need to turn off utilities during different stages of a project, remaining in a home during renovations is not ideal. It’s a good idea for medium to smaller projects nowadays to reduce the risk of exposure to both workers and occupants. If vacating is not an option, our team can work with you to coordinate the project around Coronavirus precautions.
