Florida is a unique market with a mix of older homes and an abundance of newer ones. In a sea of similar properties, how can you make yours a little more unique? Here are some Florida home features that we love because they are less common.
1 – Outdoor Living Room
At the top of our list is an outdoor living room. You actually don’t see too many of these around, but it’s a growing trend. What better way to enjoy your outdoor space than to add a second living room? Start with comfortable seating and add a flat screen TV, views of the pool, and maybe even an outdoor kitchen. It’s great for every day use and for entertaining. It will be your new favorite spot in the home.
2 – Metal Stair Railings
A seemingly minor change that makes a huge impact are metal stair railings. The thinner rods make stairways appear more open and spacious. They work great when paired with wood hand railings for warmth. These can also be customized with different spindle shapes and accents for a custom and luxurious look. The metal stair railing shown here is from our own design portfolio.
3 – Two-Tone Cabinets
Another interesting yet rarely seen trend are two-toned cabinets. Select one color for your primary cabinets and add a contrasting color for the island or breakfast bar. The two tones add depth to your kitchen. The tones need not be extremes of dark and light, as shown in this photo. There are endless other combinations that work well. For instance, you could have white kitchen cabinets and a gray island. Although both are light tones, they still provide enough contrast to attract attention.
4 – Unique Curves
Some might argue that straight lines are boring. Adding curves make any room more interesting, but the key is to do so selectively and tastefully. It can be anything from a curved archway separating two rooms to a curved tub in a bathroom. Additionally, the design must be coherent with the overall layout and theme of the decor.
